To the whispering of the waves, the building sets sail like a sailboat, carrying science and dreams.

Hong Kong Observatory's

Tai Po Kau Tide Gauge Station

The Hong Kong Observatory's Tai Po Kau Tidal Gauge Station, situated on the Tai Po waterfront, is inspired by the form of a sailboat and is both functional and artistic in design. The building utilizes ETFE (Ethylene Tetrafluoroethylene Copolymer) material for the windows, which is both light-transmitting and weather-resistant. The station is equipped with tide sensors, temperature sensors, solar panels and rain gauges, integrated steel walls and adjustable floors to ensure accurate data collection. The station is a towering cylindrical structure with a metal mesh safety fence and spiral ladder to enhance practicality. The design also incorporates sculptural elements, which, when combined with the seaside setting, makes it a unique stopping point for visitors to appreciate the beauty of its elegant lines and integration with nature.
